Mother's Day is next Sunday, May 9th, and I want to take just a moment to encourage all my readers who still can, to spend time with Mom. Don't put it off another year; go home. Take her for a walk, or a drive in the country. Share a special meal. Hold hands. Write her a letter.
For those who can't, I'm sorry. Let's share some special time with our children or perhaps a friend in need. Let's check off one of those "I really need to..." things from our list. Avoid regrets.
Just beyond the row of trees that embraces our father's land, flow the icy waters of the Tunnel Hill Creek, a small, humble, seemingly insignificant body of water that sprang forth from the earth somewhere north of our land and carved its path through the soil and rock, racing forward to its destiny.
Along its path, the water gathered tiny treasures, limestone, sandstone, minerals and shells, and occasionally a little pollution, and carried them down its chosen path. Some tiny treasures where deposited along the way and others will be carried the whole journey to an ocean full of these treasures.
Such was the life of our mother, a small, humble, seemingly insignificant body of living water that sprang forth from the earth somewhere north of our land, and just as the waters of the Tunnel Hill Creek gathered its treasures, so did she. Mom carved them out of the rocks and stones of life and carried them along her chosen path.

She Walks in Beauty
In the poem, "She Walks in Beauty," Lord Byron's beautiful way of expressing his admiration for his cousin touches my heart each time I read it. Isn't it fascinating that his focus is centered mainly on her her heart and her mind? I see no hint of anything other than pure admiration for the inner beauty of a female adorned with grace. Is this love and respect for a woman's inner beauty completely lost in our society?
It's a long journey we must travel to reach our destination, and opportunity for discouragement often arises along the way. Walk on, push harder, reach further until you make it to the glorious prize set before you.
It takes something more than courage. It takes faith, a God given ability to look beyond the sights taken in day by day in this world with weak, tired, sore eyes. It takes love, a God given ability to overcome pain and anger and see others the way God would have us see them. It takes action, a God given ability to stand firm in the face of persecution and tribulation. In jest, it takes a God given ability.
