I've been studying 1st John this week and there is a simple message in this tiny book that is really coming to life for me. It is this:
The Message
1 Jn 1:5-7 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
It is possible and even probable that these short versus sum up the entire truth of the Gospel. "This, then is the message which we have heard of him."
This verse doesn't say to become perfect and then open up to God, it says open up, tell Him the truth with no hidden secrets and fellowship with Him. If you've got a problem with sin, don't try to hide it, tell Him about it. The blood of Jesus will take care of your sins of the past and take away your desire to make the same mistakes in the future.. (More detailed article.)
The message, the true Gospel, is really just an open invitation to a true blue friendship with the Creator Himself! Is that not the sweetest thing you've ever heard? Relax. No more walls and no more lies. See Him, hear him and touch Him. (1 John 1:1-4) Learn to love Him.
Now, how is that going to change your life, improve your finances, help you find a job, heal your body?
As we discovered last week, the answer lies in Matthew 1:21. "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."
