Mat 8:24  And behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the boat was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.

Most of us would be scrambling for safety, making hasty decisions out of fear, but not our beloved.  He sleeps peacefully in a storm tossed boat.  Was He just so exhausted that even the stormy waves couldn't arouse Him, or was He truly experiencing such immeasurable peace that the great tempest couldn't rob Him of His time of rest?

I have only recently learned that His words in Matthew, chapter 6, were not mere suggestions for a healthy, happy life.  They were commands.

Mat 6:34  So do not worry about tomorrow; it will have enough worries of its own. There is no need to add to the troubles each day brings.

He did not say "Try not to worry," He said "Do not worry."  For me, that changes everything.  God doesn't just offer to carry our burdens, so that in the event we should deem Him worthy of handling our affairs, we might let go and give Him a small degree of dominion over the situations we face in our lifetime.  He requires our release of the troubles of this life into His care.  He requires it.

I believe it was in meeting this simple requirement, that Jesus found the ability to sleep peacefully in a storm tossed boat.

1Pe 5:6-7 Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that at the proper time he may exalt you.  Throw all your worry on him, because he cares for you.

How refreshing is that?
