1 John 1:8-10 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
This verse confirms my most recent post as the author seems to be repeating himself. I have read statements about the authors of the new testament, that claim the authors exhibit a poor writing style with run on sentences and repetitive language. I do not believe that. I believe the New Testament authors repeat themselves intentionally, to drive home a very important point.
The message is clear that walking in the light, means walking in the truth in an open and honest relationship with God. The benefit is beyond measure. He is faithful and just to forgive our sins AND to cleanse us from all unrighteousness; that is, once we've confessed, he will FIRST forgive the past and THEN change our very nature from one destined to sin into His divine nature. From this cleansing, comes the ability to fellowship both with God and fellow believers. From this cleansing, comes perfection (wholeness) and isn't it wonderful that we don't have to try to become perfect on our own? This is walking in the spirit.
