God Almighty saved my life with a true healing for alcoholism and its many ill effects! Thanks  be to the GOD of Abraham, GOD of Isaac, GOD of Israel and my GOD who is the creator and possessor of the whole world and everything on and in it.I thank GOD so much for if it had not been for HIS mercy upon my life, I would have been dead and buried since the year 2004. ( my record can be traced at sakumono community hospital).

Even though I was brought up in a highly religious Christian family, I ignored all the moral and spiritual upbringing and followed the patterns of this fading out sinful world. Both my late grandfathers were pastors in the E.P. Church. I owe lot of gratitude to my parents and late  grandmothers  and grandfather who ensured that I attended Church every Sunday.

I started drinking alcohol seriously somewhere in the final year at  secondary school and had my first sexual intercourse also in the final year.  My alcohol intake increased through my polytechnic education and I had girlfriends also.  I was posted to the Afram Plains for my national service and I continued drinking and sometimes could drink from morning till late night .  I had girls there as well.

After my service, I came to work in  Accra and when I rented my own room somewhere in the year 2003 at Lashibi, I continued drinking heavily and womanising as well.  I could remember drinking every evening after work with an elderly  co – tenant of mine and other friends around. As for weekends, it was always a ‘celebration’ provided I had money.  I would invite my friends and we would cook and drink heavily. I ignored Church completely and used Sunday mornings for drinking.

In the early part of the year 2004, my co – tenant whom I used to drink with died. I was with him at home when he requested from another female co – tenant to send to his daughter. His daughter arrived a day or two later. On the said day even before she arrived, he told me he was not feeling well as he sat outside to wash his clothes. He was toileting frequently and was very weak. My elderly friend leaned on me as I walked him to the taxi when his daughter arrived to be taken to the hospital.

In the evening, news came that before they got to the sakumono community hospital, he passed away so was sent to the Tema general hospital mortuary.  Before this incident, I had lost two very close childhood friends to death whom whom I used to drink with.

Few months after my elderly co – tenant friend died, I invited a lady who spent the night with me. When she arrived in the evening, I went out and got drank, could not even eat any proper food, slept with this lady, and we both slept.  At dawn the following day, I woke up and realized I was still very intoxicated, could not breathe properly, very weak and restless. I came out of my room, and lied down outside for fresh air and yet still I was very much restless and sweating. All this while, the lady was inside and did not know that I was dying outside as I could not even go in to tell her my condition. I was very weak.

In the morning, I called my elder brother on phone and he came in quickly with a cousin and both took me to the sakumono community hospital.  When we arrived, I was still sweating, shaking, my heart beating abnormally and weak. My blood was taken at the lab and I was admitted. All these while, I had to be forcing myself tirelessly  to breathe. In fact, I was really suffering and dying. I realized even thou I was suffering, I was not being attended to by the nurses or the doctor. The doctor may have thought in his mind I would not survive so left me to my fate. Not even a drip was put on me. My elder brother was just sitting sorrowfully by me watching. The painful part was that I could not even fall asleep so my work was to be forcing myself to breathe because the moment I stopped forcing, I would just die. I was very close to death. I later went into sleep.
I woke up later in the night before the nurses came and put drip on me after I guess they realized I did not die. It was a great miracle I survived which no one can explain in human terms. I was discharged after few days and returned home.

I was so grateful to GOD for saving me because if I had died, I would have died in sin and the punishment for unrepentant sin we know is eternal damnation.  After my discharge, I went to the challenge bookshop on 6th October 2004 to buy a Holy Bible which I keep till date. I also went to E.P. Church at Lashibi to give thanks to GOD. I was part of the new comers who introduced themselves. In my introduction, I told the congregation how GOD healed me from a heart condition and I was prayed for and became a member of the Church.

I did not quit drinking all at once after my near death experience as I was addicted to drinking and the drinking had taken hold of me. I stopped drinking local akpeteshi and changed to alomo, agya appiah drinks.  It happened that few months after, I was in my room when I became sick again seriously just like the first experience. I was alone so I walked slowly to the roadside and stopped a taxi. I told the driver to take me to the hospital but first I told him to pass my friend Simon’s  house who accompanied me to the Tema general hospital.

I was admitted, and it seems I was discharged the following day or two. My aunties visited me on my sick bed and advised me.
The alcohol was having a great deal with my body systems and even when I did not drink, it was like I drank. I realized the alcohol had really affected my systems badly.

At another point in time, I fell sick and went again to the Tema general hospital with a friend called Godwin. I had to force myself to be vomiting just to feel comfortable a bit. While at the hospital waiting to be attended to by a doctor, I realised I was having shortage of breathe and was dying so I went to a nurse in the ward near the O.P.D. and told her about my condition. She brought  the oxygen machine to fix on my nose. I was so scared I told her I was going to vomit and come but never returned to her again for the oxygen.

I was admitted and once again for the third time miraculously, I was discharged to go home and not discharged to the morgue.  My deliverance from alcohol and womanising went through a gradual process as the spirit of drunkenness and fornication wage war against  me  not wanting to free me so at a point I would have the strong urge to drink and not to drink.

I started reading my Bible regularly, attending Church, praying and sometimes I fasted.  My alcohol intake reduced drastically later in the year 2006 as I remember drinking stone and beer sometimes.  GOD being so good I had a change of job in September 2006. I had to go for training for some months and if I was found fit before my appointment could be confirmed. As I was determined to get this job, I started going for dawn trotting even before I got to the training ground. I realized the effects of the alcohol as I had to struggle to trot for just ten minutes continually and if I do, I would be panting with difficulty. I continued gradually and with time I increased the pace and was quiet doing well.  I went for the training and by the grace and strength of GOD, I went through all the training drills and was even ahead of so many others in physical drills including steeple chase, morning road runs, battle P.T, endurance walt and others and I was among the first ten best trainees in academics.

I could not have done all this without the healing, mercy and strength of GOD Almighty.

There is one event worth mentioning while at training camp. Few days after we started our training course, I had a bite from something I did not notice and did not take it seriously. I just mentioned it lightly to our course father. After about three days after the bite in the evening, I realized all  of a sudden that I was dying while in bed.  I had shortage of breathe, difficulty in breathing and became weak. I reported to the course father who sent me to one of our instructors who also called the nurse and I was admitted at the academy infirmary. I was given drip upon drip and my colleagues were called in to come and see what was happening to me. When the nurse realized I was not responding to treatment and just dying, he quickly called in the adjutant and both conveyed me to the Ho regional hospital where I was admitted. On the way to the hospital, I heard them saying I may not survive especially if it was a snake bite.

With GOD nothing is impossible. I was treated and the following morning, I woke up  from my bed and walked outside just to make sure I was alright. I was later discharged and most of my colleagues were surprised to see me back because what they witnessed the previous night was terrible.

GOD always on my side, I successfully passed out and recovered fully from my addiction. With the help of GOD,  I  finally quit drinking alcohol and quit womanising completely  and was  re – baptised by the district pastor of the Nungua Pentecost Church in the sea at Teshie after I confess all my sins to GOD and the pastor. I wanted to start a new life all together thus to be Born Again as commanded by JESUS CHRIST and taking in account Mark 16:16.

Am very happy GOD has helped me and as from January 2008 till date, I have never tasted any alcoholic drink. I also stopped all other forms of sin. GOD has removed the spirit of sin from me and sealed me with the blood of JESUS so those foul and evil spirits don’t return again and as am now born of GOD, it is now impossible for me to sin because those born of GOD don’t sin and am no longer a slave to sin. (Romans 6: 1 – 23 ).
I am no longer of this world but am just in it waiting patiently for the coming of our LORD JESUS CHRIST. Even if I should die before HIS coming, am delighted because when the believer, the saved died, he or she departs this world to be with CHRIST till the day of the LORD so whether I live or die, am the LORD’S.

We need to pray every day committing each day into the hand of GOD to direct us so we don’t sin against HIM because if we lose guard, the devil will try to tempt us. When you have the Spirit of GOD in you, You will realize that any time you sin, you will be so much uncomfortable with yourself and regretting the sin.

Please anytime you have this feeling, pray over the sin by fasting, and asking GOD to help you never to repeat the sin again. As much as we try not to commit sin, sin may come our way but when it unfortunately happens, do not remain in it. Get out of it and thats the difference between you and the unsaved. The reason why it happens is because your new resurrected soul which is saves still lives in the unsaved body. The body will be saved on the day CHRIST returns when we the saved shall be given a Glorious body.

The dying of the body is as a result of the fall of mankind when Adams and Eve sinned. When CHRIST comes, all who lived on this earth will be resurrected and all who have done good and are saved will rise and live those who have done evil and are unsaved will also rise but to be condemned. If you die in your sin without accepting JESUS CHRIST as your LORD and Saviour and repent of all your sins, you will go to hell. This world is passing away with its pleasures and will end one day so the time to repent, accept CHRIST and quit all bad habits is now.

Even if the world does not end very soon, you may die and depart from the world because no one knows when he or she will die. Many people die every day in this world through accidents, diseases, armed robbery, murder, sicknesses, etc. from babies through to children, teenagers, the youth, adults to the aged. If the world does not end on you, you may end on it. Now, when you depart this world, where do you intend going ?. well , If you are for CHRIST, you will go and be with HIM. If not, you will be in torments.

If you are living in sin, it means you are spiritually dead, you are living in darkness, you are a slave of sin, you are lost and you are a child of satan. The last result of unrepentant sinful life here on earth  is death. ( Revelation 21:8 ).

Finally, I wish to entreat you all to take the gospel of JESUS CHRIST seriously by accepting HIM, reading and obeying all that HIS words say in the Holy Bible, Love GOD and love your neighbour as yourself. I learnt my lessons the hard way as I came very close to death and I would not like you to go through such a terrible experience because you may not be lucky to survive. Maybe GOD saved my life just to use my experience in saving your life so you don’t need to go through my kind of experience. If you have ever come very close to death, you will understand why am pleading with you to accept CHRIST now.

If you have already accepted CHRIST,  keep on obeying HIS words and keep the faith till death and HE will give you the crown of life. Let us not only concentrate on the donts that the Bible teaches but also lets act on the dos. Eg. giving to orphans, the poor, widows in distress, helping others, visiting the sick etc (Matthew 25:31-46, James 1: 27).

I want to boldly tell you that there is no sickness or disease whether old or new that is impossible for the LORD JESUS to heal. If only you repent and believe that HE can cure you, healing shall be yours.

Again on Saturday the 19th of September 2009, I was on duty at Gwollu when in the evening I started feeling pains in my stomach so I was sent to the hospital by a colleague named Kadri. I was detained at the Gwollu hospital and at about 10pm, I started feeling really bad with difficulty in breathing, stiffness in my hands, legs and stomach as if I was dying. Immediately I knelt down on the bed and prayed to GOD to save my life from death. Due to my uneasiness, I was referred to Tumu hospital that night where I was admitted and discharged on Monday 21st September. I thank GOD for saving my physical body again from death. GOD has been merciful to me a poor sinner.

Please be guided by the following scriptures and I pray GOD will grant you understanding of HIS words. 1 Cor. 15:21-22, John 5:28-29, 2nd Cor. 5:10, Rom. 14:12, 2nd Thes.1:9, Eccl. 12:1-14, Ezek. 18:1-32, Daniel 12:1-13.

If I do not meet you physically on this earth, we shall definitely meet in the kingdom of GOD where there shall be no more death, hunger, sickness, disease and no sin.

Thank you for reading, I wish you GOD’S blessing in everything you do. Love, Righteousness, Peace and Joy to you.TO GOD BE THE GLORY.  AMEN.

My favorite part about this entire story is that God never gave up on Harry! He never gives up on any of us.
